Our Homework Heroes are Shuttleworth’s team of Year 7s who are passionate about helping children in local primary schools. They give up their own time after school every single week to go out to nearby primaries and help in the running of after-school clubs for children from Year 2 up to Year 6.

These clubs include sports, arts & crafts, and standard homework clubs, where our heroes lend a hand with everything from wordsearches to SATs revision. Many of our homework heroes visit their own former schools, mentoring children who they relate to very strongly, having been in their position themselves only last year.

This initiative, organised by our transition team, helps children experience a much smoother and less stressful transition into secondary school, which, as parents and students alike will know, is often a very scary time. We are very proud of our Homework Heroes for contributing to their local community and being so caring as to give up their time to help younger children.

“Increasing numbers of parents are choosing the school for their children. Leaders ensure that pupils in Year 6 benefit from an extremely effective programme to support their transition from primary school. Pupils in other year groups can develop their leadership skills through their involvement in this well-planned programme of activities.”
